Situated on the eastern slope of the Val d’Anniviers, St Luc is considered to be the sunniest spot in the entire valley. The village still reflects much of the past splendour of the Belle Époque era in its beautiful Grand Hotel Bella Tola.  Many may feel that time has stood still in this charming village and its surrounds, others find it a refreshing change from the high profile resorts with their state of the art technology, lift systems and high speed living.

The old village centre is compact with a few restaurants, bars and shops and a small outdoor après ski bar. This super little resort is certainly not suited to the avid shopper or those looking for anything more than civilised après ski refreshment.

The resort itself is linked with Chandolin to form a larger ski area.  There is a funicular that goes up from the edge of St-Luc and a high-speed chair from Chandolin. Both areas are served by free ski-buses. The pistes generally offer gentle, easy cruising more suited for beginners and intermediates as there are no black runs, but there are some challenging red and a few itinerary routes, one being reputedly the steepest marked run in the alps; and for the enthusiastic boarder there is a competition level  freeride area. The long easy red run down from Bella Tola at 3000m to the Tipi Bar and ski bus stop is considered to be a great way to end your day’s skiing.

The area boasts some good mountain restaurants, whether it’s a traditional hut or a more contemporary venue, the one thing that can be guaranteed is good quality fare using, locally sourced ingredients, combined with the most beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

For the non-skier there are some 40 kilometres of cross country ski trails, some lovely and a free natural skating natural rink at Grimentz and Zinal.
