Switzerland, Gstaad

Nestled in a magnificent Alpine landscape, Gstaad is arguably one of the most beautiful ski areas in the Bernese Oberland. This world famous resort has an understated fashionable atmosphere full of beautiful old chalets dotted around the pedestrianised heart of the village. It has a reputation as an exclusive and very expensive resort but good value accommodation can also be found in and around the surrounding areas. The resort is a perfect destination for those who enjoy the ambiance of the mountains without the desire to spend your entire holiday on the slopes.

A favourite venue with gourmets, the village boasts more than 100 eating establishments ranging from cosy restaurants serving Swiss specialities to a gastronomic fine dining experience. There is also a large assortment of cafés and bars to sit and relax or simple just people watch.

For the skier, the wide ski area totals some 250 kilometres of slopes, 26 different lifts throughout six independent ski regions, including Glacier 3000 that links to the resort of les Diablerets, the only glacial area in the Bernese Oberland with a guaranteed offer of winter fun from November until the beginning of May. The ski run around the Oldensattel is one of the longest and most challenging in the area, situated above Saannenmöser and Schönried and accessed by train. The resort is a paradise for beginners and budding intermediates. For those seeking out an alternative there is the opportunity for heliskiing.

Very few winter sports resorts boast as wide a choice of cosy and original mountain huts, sunny terraces and trendy snow bars. Both the Restaurant Botta 3000 and the Refuge l’Espace offer spectacular views.
